If you’ve ever eaten an oyster, the chances are that you’ve also swallowed 8.3 pieces of plastic. Why? Because our oceans are so badly poisoned that plastic is now part of our food chain. And this is a growing problem. According to Sky’s Ocean Rescue campaign, we currently use 300 million tonnes of plastic each year. And that figure is growing. Unless we change our ways, by 2050, the plastic in the sea will weigh more than the entire fish population.
Luckily, the campaign is taking a stand to tackle the plastic pollution that threatens our oceans and shorelines. And we, at Eco.3, are proud to support the fight because protecting our oceans is an issue that’s close to our hearts.
The Campaign
The main focus of the campaign is single-use plastics. 35 million plastic bottles are sold in Britain every day. That’s a staggering 200 a year for every woman, man and child. Sadly, only half of these are currently collected for recycling and, of those that end up in our seas, many have only been used for minutes.
Between 2014 and 2015 there was a staggering 43% increase in the numbers of plastic bottles washing up on British shores. Today, the equivalent of a rubbish truck’s worth of plastic is being dumped into our seas every minute. Not only does this make the food we eat today toxic but it means future generations are less likely to inherit safe, clean beaches.
That’s why there’s no time to lose. To make the sea-change our oceans so desperately need, manufacturers and consumers, must take action.
Go Plastic Free
It’s easy to start your own ocean rescue by using muti-use products. Use refillable water bottles, bags for life and choose cleaning products that don’t contain microbeads.
At Eco.3, we’re one step ahead of traditional manufacturers. We already help our customers protect the oceans with our green cleaners that are microbead-free and non-toxic. Because they’re also biodegradable, they can be safely used and washed away without harming aquatic life.
In fact, we’re so squeaky clean, that all our household cleaning products sailed through the stringent Eco-Responsible Certification (ERC) board criteria. This means we positively impact the environment – from raw material to manufacturing and from packaging to end user.
In addition, all our bottles and trigger sprays are designed for multiple uses and our trigger sprays carry a lifetime guarantee. This not only reduces CO2 emissions, landfill and careless disposal of plastics but actually saves you money. Why buy a product from a supermarket shelf, empty the contents and throw away the bottle?
Get behind a UK bottle return scheme
Ocean Rescue is lobbying the UK government to provide a bottle return scheme. Norway’s bring back system is so successful that the country now recycles 96% of their plastic bottles.
Research shows that 60% of British people support a similar scheme for the UK. And, at Eco.3, we’re right behind them. Not that you’d see many of our reusable bottles being returned. We provide our customers with refillable bottles that can be topped up with our concentrated refills. If cats have nine lives, our bottles have more.
